Judrio (see photo) river with a lot of (virtual) water in Molin Nuovo, near the hamlet Giassico. The territoryThe territory is extremely varied for what concern natural areas and morphological features. It is placed near the eastern border of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. To be more precise it is the geographical area that stretchs away for some kilometres all around the city centre between the river Judrio (see photo), the stream Versa, the hills of Slovenian Collio and Medea hill. Natural areas are very varied because of the last strip of Friulian-Venetian plain link with the Alps through Monte Quarin, The territory includes not only a fertile alluvial plain or a wooded mountain area all around Monte Quarin, but also different kinds of small ecosystems. The Prevāl (see photo) which is a vast swampy basin now reclaimed, surrounded by Collio hills. In the Outskirts there are also some quarry lakes where it is possible to go for fishing. Near Monte Quarin there are also springs and their water is thought to be therapeutic. Among these there is the famous fontana del Faęt (see photo) from which flows sulphur water. Finally even a sector of Medea hill is part of Cormōns' jurisdiction. It represents an authentic limestone island in the Friulian plain, and it also contains some Karstic caves. Finally the area is placed between two different DOC wine-producing areas: the first is Collio (see map) while the second is Isonzo (mappa), which are respectively extended along the hills and on the plain. to be continued... |
